Turner Construction - General Contractor
Hub recently installed 256 drilled tie-downs, 191 drilled micropiles, and permeation grouting for a water cutoff wall at the Boston’s Seaport World Trade Center on Commonwealth Pier. We deployed multiple crews for several phases of foundation construction; at points, three crews drilled three different micropile designs simultaneously. The micropile loads ranged from 50 to 100 tons and included piles drilled through the deck over Boston Harbor. Phased demolition, sequencing with subcontractors, and constant exposure to the elements in all four seasons made the work an adventure. In the process we carefully skirted structural and iron work elements of the original exhibition hall that the owner wished to preserve for its revitalization. We completed our work in four months utilizing three large drill rigs with less than 23 feet of headroom.
