This job gave us a chance to expertly weave multiple foundation services. In the first phase, a surrounding support of excavation wall, we placed 37 40′ beams and two layers of bracing with wood lagging in between. Next we drilled 20 four- and five-foot diameter shafts averaging 120 feet deep. We conducted all of this work from 25 feet above the cut-off grade.
Old granite seawalls presented obstructions during the construction of the SOE wall. We stockpiled and moved spoils twice a day on this tight site. Every aspect of trucking and maneuvering equipment required foresight and planning. Still, we maintained production on this busy downtown Boston site.
